Change Coming to Beach Cities Transit

Beach Cities Transit Line 104—which runs south from the to the Hollywood Riviera and east to Del Amo Mall in Torrance—will cease operations permanently Friday evening, according to a news release from the .

The Redondo Beach City Council unanimously approved the elimination of Line 104, among other changes to BCT, on Nov. 15 of last year.

The changes were recommended after the department performed a comprehensive operational analysis of both the fixed routes and the Wave Dial-A-Ride service.

BCT decided to eliminate Line 104 after discovering it averaged only 46 riders per day during the week, while Lines 102 and 104 averaged 709 and 1,355 riders per weekday, respectively, during the study period. The route's buses and resources will be redirected to the remaining to lines, saving the city about $630,000.

Line 104 was originally a Torrance Transit route that was dropped in 2005 due to low ridership.

Other changes that will go into effect Saturday include increasing bus frequency on Line 102 from every 45 minutes to every 30 minutes. The Line 102 buses will also stop at the on both its northbound and southbound routes, except during peak rush hours.

Additionally, Line 102 will add more weekday bus trips during the school year.

The Line 109 buses will serve the Douglas Station at Rosecrans Avenue and Sepulveda Boulevard in Manhattan Beach in both directions, and the route has been modified to bring buses closer to Manhattan Village Mall. The line's time schedules will also be revised.

The changes were originally scheduled to be implemented in April.
