Domo Arigato Casa Sushi

Fresh and authentic sushi is abundant at Casa Arigato.

Sushi is one of those types of foods that people get nitpicky about; whether or not it's the real deal is always the subject of debate. I’ve tried several sushi places here in the South Bay, and while most are fairly decent, there are only a few that are at the top of the class. in Riviera Village belongs in that category.

One of the first things I noticed when I walked into Sushi Casa Arigato on a hot afternoon for lunch was that there were Japanese people inside conversing with the staff—a good sign. Next, a portion of the menu was in Japanese—another telling sign because it showed me this place claimed to be the real deal. I excitedly browsed the menu.

The service was speedy and friendly. The miso soup that came with my meal arrived shortly after I placed the order. The only difference about this particular soup was it was served in the traditional way, without a spoon, which was available on request. Other than that, it was like any other.

Up next was the Palm Spring Roll—a bright and colorful plate featuring a California roll topped with fresh tuna, tomato, smelt roe and wasabi sauce. It was not only appealing to the eye but to the taste buds as well.

The sushi was very fresh. The tomato, though not a common ingredient in sushi dishes, was a welcome addition.

I had considered ordering a roll a la carte after this, but I was just too full! However, since the soup and filling entrée were only $11, it was a good value indeed.

Sushi Casa Arigato has an underground parking lot, and there are quite a few metered spots around as well. Soak up the sun on their patio or cool down in their small dining area. With quick service and fresh food, it's definitely worth stopping by.
