Giuliano's Wines and Dines Its Customers

Giuliano's Delicatessen and Bakery has morphed into Trattoria di Guiliano's.  For years, the deli-bakery, located in stripmall along Aviation Boulevard, has had limited outdoor tables for lunch-time traffic. The owners are now going after the evening crowd with a wine bar and indoor seating.

Like its sister store in Torrance, Giuliano's of Redondo Beach carries imported Italian grocery items from pasta to fresh cheese and wine, along with a dessert case offering traditional Italian cookies and pastries. Prepared meals as well as hot and cold sandwiches are staples of both locations.

The new wine bar, located in an expanded portion of the deli-eatery, is unique to the Redondo location. General Manager Favio Cacciagioni said it fits with the neighborhood feel of the Redondo location, and, if all goes well, will help sell more wine there. 

"Since we're located on the site of a former corner store, we'd like to capture that atmosphere," Cacciagioni explained.  "We'd like it to have more of a neighborhood feel."

To get patrons to sample some of the wine, Trattoria di Giuliano's is running a wine tasting from 5 to 7 p.m. on the first Thursday of the month.

Last week, diners feasted on all you could eat spaghetti and marinara, salad, and garlic bread for $5.95. The complimentary wine tasting showcased a large variety of wine from whites to reds, Chardonnay to Riesling, and Cabernets. With 12 wines to choose from, each guest could easily find their favorite.

A singer performed many standards from the 40s in honor of the owner's birthday. Patrons conversed with each other and applauded the musician loudly at the conclusion of each song for a family vibe. If this particular Thursday evening is an indicator of future events, plan to arrive early as the dining area only provides a few seats but is worth it.
