Ham Supreme Offers Sandwiches, Burgers, Breakfast

Ham Supreme, located off Pacific Coast Highway, is a no-frills cafe and deli that's good for a quick lunch.

Walking into the shopping center on Pacific Coast Highway can be rather intimidating, but take a step back and notice that the center has much to offer. A plethora of restaurants awaits you. One of these is , a humble nook in the massive plaza.

The cafe's dining area was rather jumbled--half tables, half deli counter. Specials and menu items were haphazardly strewn on the walls.

Whether the quirkiness would add to the charm was yet to be determined.

The menu was loaded with a huge selection of sandwiches. Yes, as the name implies, this establishment is known for its ham, and a few patrons were seen ordering it. However, the sandwiches covered a wide range of tastes; burgers, vegetarian, cold cuts--it was all there.

In addition, breakfast was also served all day with the usual suspects of bacon, eggs, pancakes, and of course, waffles.

The friendly server approached the table with a good-sized turkey burger ($5+)--the special of the day--topped with mushrooms, provolone cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and ranch dressing. The sandwich also came with a pickle spear and potato salad.

The turkey burger was juicy and flavorful. The mushrooms, ranch, and cheese definitely complimented the meat. The side of potato salad was slightly spicy but all in all, a good accompaniment. It was also the right size, and not too overwhelming. The burger was clearly the star.

The server was attentive throughout the meal, but another server cleared out the plates and brought the check. She also hovered as the payment was settled, which made for an awkward ending to a good lunch. The original server bid a fond farewell. It would have been better if she waited on the table from start to finish.

It's neither a place to bring a date nor take the family for dinner; however, as a spot for grabbing a no-frills lunch before running errands, Ham Supreme may just be on that list.
