N. Redondo Woman Dies in Car Crash

Priscilla Ruiz died when her car collided head-on with a taxi.

A North Redondo Beach resident died early Saturday morning when her car collided head-on with a taxi cab on Grant Avenue near Rindge Lane.

According to a news release from Sgt. Chuck Prestia, Priscilla Monique Ruiz was driving west in the rain on Grant Avenue at about 3 a.m. when her car drifted into the eastbound lane of traffic and hit the taxi.

Ruiz was pronounced dead at the scene, Prestia said. The taxi's driver and two passengers were treated at a local hospital for moderate injuries and released.

Ruiz's friends told Patch that Ruiz was driving home after celebrating the birthday of her boyfriend, Ricky Evans.

Investigator Bill Turner told the Daily Breeze that police are investigating if alcohol played a role in the crash or whether Ruiz fell asleep behind the wheel.
