New RV Parking Rules In Effect
People who wish to park their oversized vehicles on Redondo Beach streets during the week must now obtain a permit.
New rules for recreational vehicle parking on residential streets on weekdays between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. go into effect Wednesday.
Owners with RVs measuring more than 8 feet high and 7 feet wide or exceeding 22 feet in length must now register their vehicles with the city and obtain a permit to park on the weekends, according to the ordinance passed in October.
Redondo Beach residents who have already registered their oversized vehicles in the city must pay a one-time fee of $20. If the RV is registered outside the city but owned by a Redondo Beach resident, the one-time fee is $30. Once RV owners pay the fee, they can request up to six free single-day parking permits per month, municipal enforcement officer Patty Ziello told the Daily Breeze. Single-day permits are valid Tuesdays through Fridays from midnight until 11:59 p.m, and residents may request up to 60 permits per year.
Oversized vehicle parking passes valid for seven days are also available for people visiting the city. Residents may request up to three of these $15 permits each year.
People who park oversized vehicles in violation of the city code must pay a $125 civil penalty.
The City Council approved the permit fees and penalty during its April 19 meeting.
"The new law balances the interests of those who want to limit overnight parking for RV owners and those RV owners that want to park their RV on the street," Redondo Beach Police Department spokesman Sgt. Phil Keenan wrote in a May news release. "In essence, the new ordinance restricts the overnight parking of RVs."

I've got a neighbor with 7 cars and trucks and 2 trailers. That's a LOT MORE ANNOYING than a stinkin' RV. I'd MUCH PREFER an RV to their never ending Wal-mart of used cars.

Evidently math wasn't a strong point for those who drafted this.....Residents "can request up to six free single-day parking permits per month, municipal enforcement officer Patty Ziello told the Daily Breeze. Single-day permits are valid Tuesdays through Fridays from midnight until 11:59 p.m, and residents may request up to 60 permits per year."
6 permits a month equal 72 in a year.
Many gray areas in this article...what about Mondays? Is it open for parking without a permit?
Why is the permit valid from midnight if you only need a permit to park from 2 am to 6 am?
Do I have to pay a fee if I only want to park on the street from 3 pm to 6 pm during weekdays?
How about printing the actual ordinance?

Hi Jim,
The ordinance is 7 pages long, hence the reason I didn't print it. You can read it in the minutes for the October meeting where it was approved: http://laserweb.redondo.org/weblink/0/doc/216359/Electronic.aspx (.pdf)

Thanks Nicole!
Exactly what I needed.
There is reference to an On-Line Permit System. A link to that would be a tremendous help!

Hi Jim,
I'm not sure if it's online yet. I can't seem to find a link to it on the city's website at http://www.redondo.org.

I know...I wrote to matt Kilroy back in December when I first heard about this. He had nothing to share. He said he'd get back to me, but you know how that goes.
I'll see Steve Aspel on Monday and see if he has any info. If so, I'll be sure to share. :)
