Redondo Beach celebrated the start of the holiday season with the lighting of its Christmas tree at the corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Diamond Street.

During the ceremony, which was emceed by Fox 11 meteorologist Rick Dickert, Pastor Mark Nazarian of gave the invocation after the JROTC cadets presented the colors. The Redondo Union Jazz Band, directed by Mark Aguero; the School Choir, directed by Megan Melrose; and the Redondo Union Choir, directed by Phileman "Dr. T" Theodorou provided the entertainment. The high school's boys lacrosse team served refreshments provided by and .

The event was organized by the Redondo Beach Beautification Committee, along with the Redondo Beach Round Table.
