Redondo Man Found Dead on Beach

The man—identified only as a 79-year-old Redondo Beach resident—was found in street clothes with his wallet in a pocket. Hermosa Beach police are investigating.

A Redondo Beach man was found dead on the beach in Hermosa Beach on Tuesday around 6:45 p.m., according to police.

The 79-year-old man, who was discovered near the shoreline by a citizen who notified a nearby lifeguard, had suffered visible head trauma and may have been on the rocks near the Redondo Breakwall, said Hermosa Beach Police Department Sgt. Robert Higgins. The victim was wearing street clothes and had his wallet in his pocket.

The man's vehicle was found parked near the breakwall.

The breakwall—a rock jetty forming the outer border of King Harbor—is in Redondo Beach, but the waves are in Hermosa Beach, according to the WannaSurf website.

The body was discovered on the beach between Fourth and Fifth streets.

The man’s name has not been released pending notification of his family, said HBPD Detective Mick Gaglia.

The incident is being investigated and there are no signs of foul play, according to Higgins.
