Redondo Schools Get Straight A's
Schools in Redondo Beach Unified School District perform well in the state's Academic Performance Index.
Schools in the Redondo Beach Unified School District received straight A's in this year's Academic Performance Index report from the California Department of Education.
With the exception of the local continuation school, Redondo Shores High School, and the South Bay Adult School, all public schools in RBUSD maintained their high scores in the state's API between 2010 and 2011.
Additionally, three of Redondo's elementary schools—Alta Vista, Beryl Heights and Jefferson—received perfect 10 scores when ranked statewide and against similar schools, according to data from the Department of Education.
According to the Department of Education, for the statewide rankings, schools are compared to others of the same type (i.e. elementary, middle or high) and rated from 1-10, with 10 being the highest. The similar school comparison is measured the same way, except that instead of comparing schools of the same type, it compares schools with similar demographics, such as ethnicity, socioeconomic status, the percentage of students enrolled in honors programs and the percentage of students with disabilities, among other factors.
Parras Middle School also received a perfect 10 when compared to schools statewide, though it received a 9 when compared to similar schools.
In addition, Adams Middle School and Redondo Union High School received perfect 10 scores when compared to similar schools.
Washington Elementary scored the lowest, with a 7 score statewide and a 4 when compared to similar schools.

Safety and control are sure issues at RUHS though. Across the last week my football player son said that about a dozen teammates had their cellphones stolen out of the locker room. It's too bad that the school doesn't have control of the campus. Yesterday's gun lockdown and search email by principal Mary Little indicident is another reminder that control is lax.
