RUHS Burglaries Tied to Glendale Thefts

Two thefts of computers from have been connected to a pair of burglaries at a Glendale elementary school, according to a news release posted on the Glendale Police Department's website.

The early December break-ins at Mark Keppel Elementary School and Redondo Union occurred within a day of each other, police said.

On Dec. 3 at about 3:30 a.m., two men broke a classroom window at Keppel Elementary and stole one Apple laptop and one Apple desktop computer. On Nov. 16, two other computers were taken. After the December break-in, Glendale police discovered similarities with the two burglaries in Redondo, according to the news release.

During the first incident at Redondo Union—which occurred toward the end of August—burglars broke into a classroom through a locked window and stole 11 Apple iMac computers worth about $18,000, according to information from the .

The second incident occurred Dec. 4 at about 6:30 a.m. Burglars smashed a window at the high school and stole six iMacs, worth about $9,500, police said.

Police believe the burglars fled in a silver 2011 Chevrolet Malibu.

Redondo Union Principal Nicole Wesley told the Glendale News-Press that because the burglaries came during a period of budget cuts, "this is certainly not how we want or need to be spending our money."

Surveillance footage from Keppel Elementary on the night of the burglary shows two black men between the ages of 18 and 24. One was wearing a green "Oregon" hooded sweatshirt, while the other wore a gray hooded sweatshirt. The men wore the same clothing during both burglaries at the elementary school, police said.
