Santa Claus to Shorten Redondo Visit

Santa Claus will visit Redondo Beach parks twice in December.

Instead of riding through Redondo Beach neighborhoods to spread holiday cheer between Thanksgiving and Christmas, Santa Claus will land in Alta Vista and Aviation parks this December.

Santa's ride is normally financed by the Redondo Beach Police Officers Association with help from the Redondo Beach Firefighters Association; however, due to budget cuts, furloughs and concessions in contract negotiations, the RBPOA had to shorten Santa’s visit to the city.

"Even in the most difficult times, members of the Redondo Beach Police Officers Association are committed to serving the community," wrote RBPOA President Dave Taneman in a news release. "As such, we will continue the longstanding practice of bringing cheer to the families and children of our City during the upcoming 2011 Holiday Season."

Santa will visit Alta Vista Park's baseball diamond from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Dec. 10 and Anderson Park's baseball diamond from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Dec. 17.

The RBPOA asks that families who come to see Santa bring an unwrapped toy or clothing for less fortunate children.
