Why go: It's the beginning of the gray whale migration season, so make sure you catch a glimpse of one of these giant mammals on its way to Baja California. personnel have also reported seeing orcas and fin whales.

Where and when: Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, 3720 Stephen M. White Drive, San Pedro; Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Why go: Celebrate the world's largest mammals at Cabrillo Marine Aquarium's annual Whale Fiesta. This year's celebration will feature a life-sized sand sculpture of a pod of orcas, a "Great Duct Tape Whale Contest," arts and crafts, face painting, music, a puppet show and a grand finale where participants will become a single "living whale."
