Dominique’s Kitchen formally welcomes the public for its grand opening on Friday, Nov. 16 until Sunday, Nov. 18 for dinner 4-10 p.m. In celebration, all guests will receive a complimentary glass of champagne and can draw prizes that include a free dessert, 50 percent off an entree with purchase of one, a free appetizer with purchase of an entree, or a free glass of wine.
The restaurant, specializing in Euro-French cuisine, is helmed by owner and executive chef Dominique Theval, who is himself French.
“French food is often associated with being snooty and I didn’t want that with this place,” Theval said. “I wanted to open a place that felt like you were dining in someone’s home. It’s food that you would not be surprised to be served if you went to dinner at your friend’s home in France.”
Using fresh, locally grown ingredients, the menu features classic French dishes including snails baked in butter and garlic, three cheese macaroni gratin, fondue and creme brulee. The less adventurous should not be intimidated by the title of “Euro-French” cuisine. The menu includes many items that are very familiar including prime rib, roasted chicken and sweet potato fries.
This is the first restaurant Theval has opened himself in Los Angeles. Formerly he was executive chef of Morels French Bistro and Taix, Los Angeles' oldest French restaurant. Theval began his culinary career in France and has since worked in restaurants in Bermuda, London and Cambodia before making Los Angeles his home.
For now, the restaurant is open for dinner, but hopes to expand to offering weekend brunch and eventually lunch service. It also is hosting a pre fixe Thanksgiving dinner, which is also available for takeout.
