I wanted to take the opportunity to thank everyone involved in this weekend's tryouts for the South Bay's own roller derby league, and two team tryouts this weekend.
Congratulations to all the new members and a big welcome to all the new 'fresh meat" girls who are just getting started with us.
The league was formed this past summer by Capt. Shayna Pigeon Meikle. Now her vision of making it more then just a mere idea for our community—she has helped make a dream come true for several of our local women!
She and a crew of devoted volunteers and referees have worked hard since this past summer to provide training, practice, support and direction for a group of skaters, of all levels. As of Sunday, those women are now offically Beach Cities Roller Derby Leagues teams: Sea Vixens and Riptide Rollers!!
If you love derby (and who doesn't), you have a few upcoming opportunities in February to either support our efforts for fundraising and/or come watch our bouts!
Hermosa Saloon: Feb. 7, 7-10 p.m., come out and participate in a fundraiser with our own Mermaid Millie's band, and some amazing art work from Yer Cheatn Heart Tattoo Parlor, FUSE fitness classes, Derby mech. Get your shirt to wear proudly on bout day! And other cool surpises you won't want to miss!
