RUHS PITCHER COOPER GALLION REPRESENTING REDONDO IN THE 2013 SENIOR LEAGUES

Senior League Baseball is a national division of 15 and 16 year old baseball players who play their regular season in June and end in July. Once the season is completed, area players are voted in to form a local All Star team of 16 players who make a run for the Senior League World Series in Bangor, Maine. This event is held each year in August, with the final championship games televised on ESPN. Players from all over the world play out a system of tournaments a converging regions competing for the title in Maine.     Although the local Little League programs in Hermosa and Redondo are encouraged to take part, this year it was only Manhattan Beach Little League that registered a Senior League team and therefore qualified to have players take part in the season. Players from Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, and Redondo Beach, all under Region 36 battled it out and only one local Redondo player is still standing, RUHS Freshman Pitcher of the YearCooper Gallion. Gallion, a 6' 2" 15 year old who finished up a solid first season at RUHS was selected to the MBSL All Stars roster out of over 120 eligible players and has contributed to a successful run so far. He went 6-1 during the season throwing three one-hit shutouts, the final one-hitter giving his team the league championship at Mira Costa High School.     The MBSL All Stars are being coached this year by Carlos Rojas, Head Baseball Coach at St. Bernard's High School. Rojas has attempted to take a team to the Senior League World Series now for the last four years. He managed to lead MBSL teams to the finals twice in those four years to Bangor, representing the Manhattan Beach region but has come up short of winning the title.      So far this year the MBSL All Stars are undefeated at 6-0 thanks in part to Redondo pitcher Cooper Gallion who is now 2-0 as a starting pitcher. Both of his wins came on tournament championship clinching games. Less than two weeks ago Gallion got the win for the MBSL All Stars against the Lennox All Star team, going six innings without giving up a run and leading the team to the Sectional Title. Then it was a four inning effort last night to lead the team to the Sub- Divisional title against Sunset, a team of All Stars from Oxnard, California winning by a final score of 12-4.       The MBSL All Stars will now head to San Diego this weekend to play the best two out of three Series facing the All Star team representing the South Sub-Division, the Spring Valley All Stars, who just defeated the Fontana Senior All Stars today. If the MBSL All Stars win in San Diego this weekend, they will qualify for the final tournament to be held in Ontario, Ca next week to see who will represent the West: one team representing California, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.
