103-Year-Old South Bay Christian Church to Close

The membership rolls at South Bay Christian Church have dwindled to fewer than three dozen.

South Bay Christian Church on Broadway in South Redondo Beach will close its doors for the last time Sunday after 103 years in the community, according to the Daily Breeze.

Only 35 people count themselves as members of the church, which traditionally serves breakfast to homeless people on Sunday mornings. Many attendees are elderly.

"It comes down to us running this place with people who are 70, 80 or 90," Rev. Anne Cohen, the pastor of South Bay Christian Church, told the Breeze. "They don't have the energy."

The South Bay Korean Church will continue to occupy and rent the building. According to the Breeze, the South Bay Korean Church will probably continue to feed the homeless pancakes before Sunday services.

The South Bay Christian Church may reconstitute itself later this year, according to the Breeze.
