With temperatures hitting at least 70 degrees, it was a good day to grab some ice cream.

Both Baskin-Robbins locations in Redondo Beach participated in the chain's annual 31-cent scoop night on Wednesday, where customers could buy up to three 2.5-ounce scoops of any flavor for 31 cents apiece, plus tax. The promotion lasted from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m.

According to Avenue I franchise owner Bob Nayebi, about 1,900 people stopped by that location for their 31-cent scoops of Jamocha Almond Fudge, Cookies and Cream, and Gold Medal Ribbon, among other flavors, last year.

This year, he said, seemed less crowded; however, a steady stream of customers visited the store throughout the night.

As part of the celebration, the Baskin-Robbins Community Foundation made a $100,000 donation to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, which provides assistance to families of firefighters who have died in the line of duty.

"We are honored to partner with Baskin-Robbins again for its 31 Cent Scoop Night," NFFF Chief Ronal Siornacki said in a news release from Baskin-Robbins headquarters. "Not only is it great for the community to enjoy 31-cent scoops of ice cream, but it's the perfect opportunity to raise awareness of fire prevention."
