Coyotes Kill Cat in South Redondo

Coyotes may be traveling from the Palos Verdes Peninsula into Redondo Beach, according to Police Chief Joe Leonardi.

A pair of coyotes killed one cat and tried to attack a second one early Thursday morning, according to a report in the Easy Reader.

The incident occurred in the 400 block of South Gertruda Avenue at about 3 a.m. The coyotes then headed through South Redondo Beach and were last spotted by police officers near the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Palos Verdes Boulevard at about 4:30 a.m.

"It is believed that the coyotes are extending their range from areas on the Palos Verdes Peninsula," Redondo Beach Police Chief Joe Leonardi told reporter Alyssa Morin.

People are advised to keep pets inside at night and not leave food out, which could attract coyotes and other wild animals.
