Fundraiser Planned for Deceased Guardsman

Chief Petty Officer Terrell Horne III died early Sunday morning after a Mexican panga boat rammed the small boat he was on.

A fundraiser for the family of Chief Petty Officer Terrell Horne III, a member of the U.S. Coast Guard who was killed after a small panga boat rammed the boat he was on, will be held Friday at Malibu Fish Grill on Pacific Coast Highway in South Redondo Beach.

Two Mexican nationals were charged in connection with Horne's death.

During the daylong event, which lasts from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m., restaurant proceeds will be donated to Horne's wife, Rachel, who is pregnant, and their child, according to an email from the eatery.

For those who can't make it to Malibu Fish Grill, the Coast Guard Foundation is collecting donations on behalf of the Hornes and other surviving relatives of guardsmen who have been killed in the line of duty.

"When a Coast Guard member dies in the line of duty, we all feel the loss," the organization wrote in a blog post on Monday. "Our hearts go out to BMC Horne's family at this time. As an organization we are here to support his family, and the Coast Guard community at large, any way we are needed."

Donations to the Coast Guard Foundation support the Family Disaster Relief Fund, Coast Guard memorial services, and the Fallen Heroes' Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships for deceased service members' children.
