Redondo Beach residents are invited to go fly a kite or two Sunday at the 39th annual Festival of the Kite at the Redondo Beach Pier.
The festival, which begins at noon and goes until 5 p.m., will feature prizes for kite-flyers, a corn-dog eating contest, a yo-yo competition, a jiu jitsu demonstration and live music.
Prizes will be given to the person with the highest-flying kite and the person with the best handmade kite, as well as the youngest person to fly a kite. Attendees can also help launch a 25-foot kite.
The annual event is sponsored by the Sunshine Kite Co. and the Redondo Pier Association.
