It was smooth sailing for participants and spectators at the 22nd Annual King Harbor Boat Parade Saturday as dozens of decorated boats and stand-up paddleboarders glided through the marina from 5-7 p.m. to celebrate the holiday season.
The theme of this year's holiday parade, "Dive into the Season," was a tribute to Body Glove co-founder Bob Meistrell, who died June 16. Meistrell's wife, Patty, and sons, Randy, Robbie and Ronnie, served as grand marshals of the event.
Boats were judged in eight categories:
- Best Theme
- Best Animation and Costumes
- Best Lighting
- Best Sound
- Overall Sailboat
- Overall Powerboat
- Most Creative (Stand Up Paddleboards Only)
Proceeds from the event benefitted the King Harbor Youth Foundation, Sea Scout Ship #618 and a charity chosen by the Meistrell family.
For those who couldn't be seaside for the parade, Joe Terry of "The South Bay Show" and Jackie Balestra of South Bay by Jackie provided a live online broadcast of the festivities from the King Harbor Yacht Club. Be sure to check out the archived video on this page for their colorful commentary.
