Photos: City Hosts Public Safety Fair

The annual event aims to educate the Redondo Beach community about public safety.

The hundreds of residents who attended the city of Redondo Beach's Public Safety Fair on Sunday were treated to demonstrations, free hotdogs and more during the annual event.

Representatives from the Redondo Beach Police Department and Redondo Beach Fire Department—as well as the Public Safety Commission, Community Emergency Response Team, Public Works Department and more—were on hand to teach members of the community about safety and various city programs.

At the end of the day, members of the police department put on a large demonstration with the K-9 and SWAT units. In the scenario, a pair of suspects had stolen a car with a child inside. Police arrested the first suspect, played by K-9 Officer Dan Richey, with the help of a police dog, while the SWAT team used a flash-bang grenade to subdue the other suspect and rescue the child.

When that was done, Fire Truck 61 drove up and used the Jaws of Life and a cutting tool to demonstrate how they free someone trapped in a wrecked car.
