More to come: Market manager Susan Hillyer considers Friday a soft launch for the market, which was approved by City Council on Sept. 7. Hillyer says the second phase will begin on Oct. 1, when items such as hummus, olives and olive oil will be added to the selection; the final phase will be determined by community input.

The Riviera Village Business Improvement District lobbied for the new farmer's market. At one point, the city considered moving the existing farmer's market to Riviera Village.
