Bodies in Motion at Health District Exhibit

Saturday is the opening reception for the display of movement art.

Art appreciators, visit Saturday's opening reception for "In Motion — The Human Body in Movement," an exhibit on display at the Beach Cities Health District office at 514 N. Prospect Ave.

Presented by the health district and Friends of Redondo Beach Arts, "In Motion" features 109 artworks by 65 artists, including 29 from Redondo Beach, in all media: oil, acrylic, watercolor, mixed media, clay, wood, metal, jewelry and photography.

Visitors will see a variety of body movements: frolicking, vaulting, bouncing,  prancing, swaying, swirling, fluttering, dancing, undulating, pulsating, rising, traversing, swarming, sprawling, arching,  halting, slumping, crouching, fizzling vanishing, according to curators Stefani Conniff and Nina Zak Laddon.

The curators said that they created "In Motion" to enrich the lives of people visiting the building.

"Art transforms an empty space into a significant place. It inspires, ignites discussions and emotions, and creates memories. Art becomes an interpretation of a location that interacts with its environment. A blank hallway can be transformed by color, textures, movement and shapes," Laddon said in a news release.

The opening reception will take place Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m., with an award ceremony at 7 p.m.

The exhibit is open until July 25.
