RBUSD Official to Make Reality TV Debut in 'Dream School'

Dr. Steven Keller will be the principal of a high school staffed by star-studded teachers in the Sundance Channel's "Dream School."

Suze Orman, 50 Cent, Oliver Stone, Jesse Jackson and David Arquette will probably be familiar to the majority of viewers watching the premiere episode of Sundance Channel's original reality television series Dream School on Oct. 7.

One other face, however, is likely to be quite familiar to parents in Redondo Beach. Dr. Steven Keller, the superintendent of Redondo Beach Unified School District, has a prominent role in Dream School, a six-episode miniseries focusing on high school dropouts, the Daily Breeze reported.

Keller stars as the principal of a high school where 15 students must pass four tests and earn 10 credits in a possible final chance to graduate from high school. The catch? All this must be done within four weeks.

The 15 students either dropped out or were kicked out of their previous high schools.

The drama focuses on both sides of the classroom—while students struggle to graduate, the celebrity teachers (Jackson, Stone and Orman, among several others) struggle to get through to them, according to the newspaper.

"I’m one of those people who tends to be more on the critical side (of reality television),” Keller told reporter Rob Kuznia. "But I believe (the show) is pretty authentic."

Watch Dream School at 10 p.m. Oct. 7 on the Sundance Channel.
