Photos: Artists Chalk It Up at Fundraiser

Festival promotes art program at South Bay schools.

More than 300 people attended Redondo Beach art group Hands on Art's annual Saturday at , which featured chalk art, a silent auction, food, lemonade, jewelry vendors and more.

"It's been fantastic," event organizer Erika Snow Robinson said. "[There are] so many more people this year than last year."

Attendees could purchase squares in three different sizes—2 feet by 2 feet, 3 feet by 3 feet or 5 feet by 5 feet. According to the sign-up sheet, more than 90 people purchased squares on Saturday; others pre-purchased their squares via Paypal.

Multiple organizations sponsored the largest squares, which cost $100. Representatives from the organizations or, if the organization didn't send anyone, Hands on Art volunteers did the chalk art.

As part of the event, Hands on Art brought local bands, and the Redondo Union Salsa Club performed for the crowd. Artist Silvia Peluso also taught a wire-wrapping and jewelry creating workshop.

All money raised at the event went to Hands on Art.

Hands on Art, along with sister programs Art at Your Fingertips in Palos Verdes and Young at Art in Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach, is dedicated to bringing affordable arts education to local schools. Each group presents 5-6 projects per year at each school.
