Teen Paints Portraits at Incredible Speed

Ross Bucher, a senior at Palos Verdes Peninsula High School, has never taken an art class.

Using his hands instead of a paintbrush, a Palos Verdes Peninsula High School senior painted a portrait of John Lennon in front of a small crowd of people at Harmony Works in Redondo Beach's Riviera Village on Friday night.

The kicker? Ross Bucher, 17, did it in less than 4 1/2 minutes.

Bucher became interested in "speed painting" after watching artist Denny Dent on television. With the goal of trying such a project in mind, he first started drawing pictures in June. He started painting in August. Within the last two months, he started speed painting.
