Blog: Jim Light Is Right for Redondo

Unmatched integrity, intelligence and drive. Jim Light is needed on the Redondo Beach City Council.

Jim Light is exactly the type of citizen we need representing us in Redondo Beach, and I'm encouraging everyone in District 1 in Redondo Beach to get out and vote for Jim, this Tuesday, May 14th, to be your council member for the next four years.

In the last 11 years as a resident of Redondo, Jim has been as active as anyone and registered a lot of successes:

- helped stop the Heart of the City, both in 2002 and 2003

- co-founded the South Bay Parkland Conservancy

- successfully campaigned for the Heart Park advisory vote

- co-authored Measure DD

- successfully campaigned for Measure DD that now requires a public vote before large zoning changes like the Heart of the City can move ahead.  60% of District 1 residents approved Measure DD.

- stopped the rezoning of Torrance Blvd. for 189 condos by submitting a 90 page traffic analysis showing the streets could not handle it

- served on the Redondo Beach Growth Management and Traffic Committee

- with the financial and moral support of hundreds of citizens, Jim led the successfull lawsuit against the City of Redondo Beach for violating their own charter. Four judges agreed with him in the face of tremendous outrage by the Mayor and 4 out of 5 Council Members

Much of what Jim has done over the past 11 years has been twisted and distorted by his political opponents.  That's how politics works.  One accomplishes something, and their opponents try to market the success to the public as a failure, try to undo that success, or pretend like it doesn't matter.  Jim has always forged ahead though, with the integrity and fortitude of a soldier under the command of your quality of life.

Plus, Jim is the Vice President of Business Development for a local aerospace firm. His strategy and leadership have grown the company to over 460 people since opening its doors for business in 2004.  The firm supports the US Government in buying and operating systems critical to our national defense.  Jim is also a retired Captain of the US the Air Force.

For those of you who remember how difficult it was to stop the Redondo Beach Heart of the City development plan back in 2002, and then again in 2003, you'll be glad to know Jim Light is running for the District 1 City Council seat in 2013.  And for those of you who are fairly new to Redondo Beach and don't know what the Heart of the City was, you'll also be happy to know you have a very hard working, honest, and truly selfless individual running for the City Council in Redondo Beach.

Unlike his opponent, Jeff Ginsburg, Jim has not taken campaign donations from the Redondo Auto Spa; the company that is looking for Council approval for their new facility on Torrance Blvd.  Nor did he take money from our solid waste handler, Athens disposal.  Jeff Ginsburg however, has accepted $750 from the car wash company, $1,000 from our trash collector, $500 from the Redondo Chamber of Commerce and $500 from a major lease holder in King Harbor.  How is it going to appear to those affected if Jeff Ginsburg votes to approve a new car wash, a new trash contract or a large development plan that involves the lease holder in the Harbor?  Jim will have no conflicts, perceived or otherwise, when important issues involving these companies and our quality of life come before him as your representative.

Get out and vote on May 14th in Redondo Beach.  And please vote for Jim Light for City Council in District 1.  He's a man of the people with an 11 year track record of fighting for the Redondo residents, not special interests.
