PCH Reopens After Rollover Crash

Four people, including two juveniles, are transported to the hospital following the crash.

Pacific Coast Highway at Avenue G was shut down in both directions Friday afternoon following a two-vehicle collision.

According to Redondo Beach Fire Department Chief Steve Hyink, a green Ford Explorer collided into the side of a Chevrolet minivan, causing the minivan to roll over, at about 2 p.m.

Hyink said that five juveniles were riding in the van when it was hit by the SUV, which was carrying two adults.

Witnesses at the scene said the minivan was attempting to cross the four lanes of Pacific Coast Highway at Avenue G when it was "T-boned" by the SUV.

Two of the minivan passengers and the two adults in the SUV were transported to the Harbor General Medical Center. Hyink said their injuries are not life-threatening, and that the victims were mainly taken to the hospital as a precaution.

"They met the criteria to go to the trauma center," Hyink said. "They looked like they were in pretty good shape, though."

Pacific Coast Highway remained shut down until about 3 p.m. as crews worked to clear the vehicles and clean up after the accident. Traffic was diverted on Catalina Avenue during the closure.
