Redondo Beach police plan to hold a news conference Saturday afternoon identifying a person of interest in the fatal shooting of a man at the intersection of Ralston and Lilienthal lanes in North Redondo Beach on Friday night.

Capt. Jeff Hink of the Redondo Beach Police Department told Patch that officers responded to a call of shots fired shortly after 8 p.m. Friday.

Responding officers found an adult male who "appeared to have been shot multiple times" lying in front of a home in the 2400 block of Ralston Lane, Hink said. Police and neighbors indicated that the home may belong to a relative of the man, whose identity was not released.

The man was treated at the scene before being transported to Harbor UCLA Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

"Redondo Beach Police Department detectives are actively investigating this murder," Hink wrote in a news release sent early Saturday morning. "It appears that the victim was specifically targeted and that the shooting was not a random event."

Police also investigated what appeared to be a second crime scene near the intersection of Spreckles Lane and Inglewood Avenue. A dark-colored Chrysler 300 sedan was surrounded by police tape, and multiple officers were nearby.

According to Hink, investigators are planning to process the vehicle for evidence.

"We don't know how it is involved or even if it is involved," Hink said. "It is going to be impounded."

He would not say if the vehicle belonged to a suspect in the shooting.

"We have a lot of information we need to sort through," Hink said. "It is all pretty fresh right now."

Police have not yet determined a motive for the shooting. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Redondo Beach Police Department directly at 310-379-2477 or via the tip line at 310-937-6685. People can also text tips to 310-339-2362 or email crimetips@redondo.org.
