Move over, Breakwall. There's a new bar on the Redondo Beach Pier.
About nine months after its anticipated opening in spring 2013, the sixth restaurant in the Barney's Beanery chain opened in the former Breakwall space in the Redondo Landing portion of the pier earlier this month.
The restaurant space was made famous in a 2011 episode of Spike TV's Bar Rescue, in which bar consultant Jon Taffer tries to reverse the fortunes of failing bars across the country. The "Beach Bummer" episode featured Kilkenny's Irish Pub, which was transformed into Breakwall Bar & Grill over the course of the show.
Breakwall closed the following January. At the time of the show's filming, the owners were $900,000 in debt.
Barney's Beanery has been a welcome sight for many on the pier.
"We're being greeted with cheers from everyone in Redondo Beach who are so glad to see us coming to the South Bay," co-owner David Houston said in a statement. "Redondo Beach is a great sports town, and we are happy to provide a fun place for people to eat, drink and kick back with by watching their favorite sports team."
The restaurant, which describes its food as "pure American comfort," serves burgers, pizza, burritos, breakfast and the "Second Best Chili in Los Angeles." It also boasts nearly 200 imported and domestic beers, with 50 available on tap.
Barney's Beanery is located at 100 Fisherman's Wharf on the Redondo Beach Pier. For more information, visit barneysbeanery.com.
