Beach Cities Showcase Solar Homes
South Bay residents tour the energy efficient houses Saturday in Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach and Torrance.
Sponsored by Environmental Priorities Network, the 5th annual South Bay Solar Homes Tour took place Saturday.
Tour participants walked and examined the seven energy efficient houses designed with alternative energy features, low-voltage lighting and drought-tolerant landscaping.
Representing Redondo Beach was the home of Amanda Freeman on Calle de Madrid. The house featured a photovoltaic net metered — a special billing arrangement that permits customers to get credit for the full retail value of the electricity their system generates — solar system with power-factor regulator.
