Classic Burger Offers Eclectic Menu

Classic Burger has a classic diner feel and an interesting menu.

is a small restaurant on Torrance Boulevard with a fairly decent following. On one Sunday at lunchtime, the restaurant was full, but customers were still filing in and either waiting for a table or placing a take-out order.

The space is tiny, and even with only a few tables seated, it felt cramped. Some tables were placed so close to each other that patrons practically sat on each others' laps. It seemed the owners were trying too hard with such a small space.

Their menu, obviously, consists of different varieties of burgers, with Mexican food and breakfast added to the mix. Several combo meals, which included fries and a drink, were an option. A small marker board also added some specials to their already immense menu.

The orders in the overcrowded restaurant seemed to be sent out in what appeared to be a random order. Patrons were not necessarily served in the order that they arrived, which created some chaos in the dining area.

Finally, the Bulgogi Burger Combo ($7) arrived at the table. In summary, the burger was confused. It tried to be an American burger with mayonnaise and coleslaw, but at the same time, it tried to be Korean with the sweet barbecue sauce that was  mixed in with the American slaw and mayonnaise. The patty was also rather thin.

The only redeeming quality to the dish was the generous portion of fries. With just a little salt, it was just right.

Perhaps the restaurant needs to trim the menu slightly to benefit its regular dishes.

It was not a four-star restaurant—not even close—so don't walk in expecting that. If you do, expect to be disappointed.

Nevertheless, for a decent burger in a classic diner setting, this is one of many places Redondo has to offer. While it's not the Mecca of all hole-in-the-wall establishments, it is a start.
