Dolce Vita Offers Taste of Europe

Dolce Vita is a small, European-style cafe that offers lattes, omelets, meats and cheeses.

is a small café in Riviera Village that's a good spot for a traditional American breakfast or lunch; however, it also carries an assortment of European fare. The little café has a sprinkling of German fare like German pancakes, omelets, spaetzle and schnitzel, as well as  French favorites like croque monsieur or quiche. It boasts a seasonal lunch menu and a wide assortment of cheeses, a charcuterie and a small grocery section.

There's a good amount of seating area inside the café, but why not enjoy the warm sun at one of the sidewalk tables? The rustic silverware holders reminded me of a country café. Each table also had a throw blanket for that ever-present sea breeze. It's a nice spot to sit back and take in the quaintness that is the Hollywood Riviera.

I sipped on my single café latte ($2.95), which was rather smooth and not too strong. I added just two packets of sugar to make it perfect. It's not the type of coffee that will give you a caffeine rush; it was nice to just sip through the meal.

The server said the German Omelet ($10.95) would be worth the wait, and to be honest, I didn’t think the wait was too long.

The omelet came apart easy. It was loaded with ham, potatoes, and pickles. Yes, pickles. It may seem like an odd choice, but with the starch of the potato and the salty ham, the sweet pickles were a welcome addition. It was served alongside two pieces of chewy sourdough as well as a small mixed greens salad.

It was a good breakfast, albeit a little on the pricey side, coming at over $15 for the grand total. The waitress didn't hover over my table, but she didn’t forget about me, either.

All in all, it was worth the extra cash for a little taste of Europe in the South Bay. I'll have to come by another time and check out their desserts and cheese and meat selection.
