Garlic Jim's Boasts Gourmet Flavor

The small pizza chain, known for its gourmet pies and gluten-free crusts, has a location in Redondo Beach.

, a small pizza chain that boasts gourmet pizzas and gluten-free crusts, has a branch right here in Redondo Beach. The location is fairly small, with only a few tables and a small counter space. Most customers opt for carryout, but however you order, pizzas are made in a timely manner.

On a recent day, the staff was efficient as they worked the lunch-rush line. They weren't overly friendly, but that may have been because most of their business comes from to-go orders. The dining area was almost full. The Wizard of Oz, an odd choice, played in the background as patrons chowed down on their meals.

The medium Queen Margherita pizza was ready within 20 minutes of the order. The pizza came in a box, ready for takeout.

The pizza was definitely fresh from the oven; the cheese just oozed when each slice was pulled from the pie. A prominent garlic taste was a little over-the-top. At least the garlic was not overdone to the point of causing bad breath or outshining the tomatoes, basil or cheese.

Freshness and taste had its cost: Although this pizza was a nice change from the national brands, it was overpriced. Starting at $15 for a medium pie, it had better be an exceptional dish. The customizable pizzas did start at a more reasonable price and are definitely an option for those who don't need all the bells and whistles.
