Moon Donuts: a Breakfast Must-Try

Family-owned Moon Donuts brings hospitality and tasty treats to Redondo.

A healthy lifestyle comes hand-in-hand with living by the beach; however, a sweet treat every now and again never hurt anyone.

Family-owned has been a South Bay mainstay for more than 20 years. It is common to see the staff conversing with a regular and greeting guests by name. The hospitality is also extended to anyone who walks in the door. Genuine smiles are seen on the staff's faces.

This small shop is stuffed with homemade cake and filled doughnuts, muffins, eclairs and other goodies. Tea, coffee, juice and iced beverages are also served. They have a small counter space to enjoy the sweet treats, but be prepared to take it to go just in case.

The maple cake doughnut was moist and chewy and thankfully did not cause a stomach ache within hours of consumption. A staff member helped with the coffee customization by offering a milk choice to the guests at the counter. Although fresh, the coffee was nothing to write about, but at $2 for both the coffee and donut, complaints were not an option.

Moon Donuts opens bright and early at 4 a.m. daily, so be sure to stop by for a quick pick-me-up before the morning commute. They only accept cash, so have some handy or use their on-site ATM.

With its friendly hospitality and its standing as an alternative to the corporate donut house, Moon Donuts is a must-try in Redondo.
