The Redondo Beach Pier Association hosted the second annual Taste of the Pier event Saturday and Sunday, attracting hundreds of people to the .
The number of people participating Saturday more than doubled last year's attendance, organizers said. Sunday was expected to produce similar results.
Food tickets were $1 each or $10 for a set of 12. Each restaurant offered a signature dish for a certain number of tickets, such as three tickets for a churro and dipping sauce from Pier Bakery or two tickets for four California rolls from Maison Riz.
"I think it's a great event," said Michael Trutanich, owner of Tony's on the Pier and president of the pier association.
Proceeds from this year's event went to the Cancer Support Community - Redondo Beach. Last year, about 30 percent of the total went to the charity; the rest went toward reimbursing the businesses for the cost of the food.
The idea for the Taste of the Pier came to the association while members were brainstorming event ideas to draw people to the pier.
"We saw that other people were doing like taste of Riviera Village, so we thought that we would try it," Trutanich said.
According to Trutanich, the event was so successful last year that people have asked the association to do it more than once per year.
"It just brings people down to the pier," he said.
