Quality Seafood Cancels Chowder Cook-off

The restaurant hopes to host the popular clam chowder cook-off next year.

Quality Seafood on the Redondo Beach Pier and International Boardwalk has canceled its annual Clam Chowder Cook-off, according to an email from restaurant representative Brian Dragich.

The email did not give a reason for the cancellation. The event was originally scheduled for Saturday.

"I believe this is a great event, with much promise, and haven't retired it completely," Dragich wrote. "I fully intend to bring it back next year."

Originally scheduled for April, the event, which usually benefits a local charity, was postponed until fall.

The chowder cook-off gives local eateries a chance to offer samples of their clam chowder to the public. Prizes are awarded for the best chowder by a restaurant and by an individual, as well as "People's Choice" awards given to the restaurant and individual that made the fan-favorite soup.
