After a move earlier this year from Riviera Village, Savoir Faire Language Institute is now located in Pier Plaza above the Redondo Beach Pier. Owner Joelle Adkins took the time to answer five questions from Patch.

Patch: How did Savoir Faire Language Institute get started?
Joelle Adkins: When I arrived in the U.S., I was unable to speak or understand English. I went to adult classes, where I was able to learn a couple of words during a 3-hour advanced class. I came home puzzled and frustrated. I put my teacher hat and rethought the whole learning process... then applied it to myself. Later, I was approached by an adult school to help out with their French program for a couple of sessions. I then knew what I had to do... I opened Savoir Faire Language Institute in 1995 and never looked back.

Patch: What's Savoir Faire known for?
Adkins: We make learning another language and culture fun and practical. We teach foreign language and culture to English speakers and English to foreigners, from preschool to business. We open the door to new friendships and adventures.

Patch: What's unique about Savoir Faire?
Adkins: We understand what it takes to learn another language. We went and still go through it ourselves, experienced it first hand. We design our own curriculum, with our team of professional language teachers; we train our new teachers; but above all, we care about our students. We listen to them and their needs. We work with them, we work for them.

Patch: What's the best part about being located in the South Bay?
Adkins: The people. Our students are always looking for new adventures, to push their frontiers, to bring the rest of the works in our beautiful cities. With a strong sense of community, the people in the South Bay are like a big family—easy to get to know, easy to love and care for.

Patch: If you could give your customers one piece of advice, what would it be?
Adkins: We are never to young or too old to learn another language. The experience opens our minds and hearts. We make new friends, we better understand ourself.
