Some of the most popular New Year's resolutions have to do with losing weight or eating healthier. Healthy Makeovers aims to help you with that journey. Owner Courtney Hermann agreed to answer five questions from Patch.

Patch: How did Healthy Makeovers get started?
Courtney HermannMy business was founded in 2010 all on my own. I struggled with my weight and well-being in college, and once I got a grasp on "why" I developed such poor lifestyle habits, I chose to dedicate my education to the cause. I changed my major to Kinesiology with an emphasis in Wellness and soon after graduating with my B.S. I attended the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, a Holistic Nutrition School. Since completing my certification, I have put my heart and soul into Healthy Makeovers, my Holistic Health, Nutrition, and Lifestyle Coaching business.

Patch: What's Healthy Makeovers known for?
Hermann: My business is known for helping people develop a healthier relationship with food with a specialization in emotional and compulsive eating. By addressing the underlying causes of weight gain, low energy, and cravings, my clients and I together can work towards living a healthier lifestyle that can be sustainable.

Patch: What's unique about Healthy Makeovers?
Hermann: My business is unique because I offer programs that cater to each individual based on their needs. Being healthy is not just about eating well and exercising. There is so much to living a healthy and vibrant life which includes but not limited to proper nutrition, a fulfilling exercise regiment, self-care, time management, sleep habits, relationships, purpose, and action planning. Some people can follow a diet plan with no issues but MOST have tried diets over and over again and none have sticked. I am the person that individual would come see.

Patch: What's the best part about being located in the South Bay?
Hermann: The South Bay is very health conscious, but we still have a substantially high amount of overweight and obese people. We also have so many trendy vegan, vegetarian, and juice spots opening around town that it shows that our residents are wanting healthier options. The problem, going out to eat and doing juice cleanses time and time again is not cost friendly or sustainable. I want people to understand what to eat, how to eat, and how to prep, cook, and store foods themselves.

Patch: If you could give your customers one piece of advice, what would it be?
Hermann: Make yourself a priority. Parent or not, you can't be there for others and live at your fullest potential if you don't take care of yourself.
