Neighborhood Grinds and Smog City Brewing open; Redondo Hair & Beauty Supply closes.

Sprouts

Neighborhood Grinds has finally opened its doors to a new store on the Redondo Beach Pier, the coffee shop announced Saturday on its Facebook page. The Redondo Beach City Council first approved the coffee shop's lease in June 2012. At the time, owner Fred Lie said that he planned to serve beer and wine at the pier location.

Beach City Brokers has posted an awning with its sign over 1716 S. Catalina Ave.—the former location of the clothing store Balisimo. There is construction going on inside the space. No word on when the new office will open.

Beer lovers, rejoice! Smog City Brewing Co. celebrated the grand opening of its new brewing facility and tap room on Saturday. The brewery, formerly based in Orange County, joins Strand Brewing Co., Monkish Brewing and The Dudes' Brewing Co. in Torrance.

Shutters

Redondo Hair & Beauty Supply on Catalina Avenue in Riviera Village shut its doors permanently a couple of weeks ago. It's not yet known what business will replace it.

Another Riviera Village clothing store, Alandrea, has also closed—but it's only temporary. The business was undergoing remodeling last week, and owners hope to have it open again May 20, according to a sign on the door.

Other business news

The Beach Reporter this week profiled Hermosa Beach resident Katy Metoyer and her Sugar Dayne cookie company. The homemade cookies are sold at fundraisers, but also at stores like Gum Tree in Hermosa Beach.
