How Is Time Warner-CBS Blackout Affecting You?

As Time Warner Cable and CBS continue their retransmission dispute, millions of subscribers are left in the dark.

As the dispute between behemoths Time Warner Cable and CBS enters the fourth week, many subscribers across Los Angeles County, including those in Redondo Beach, are feeling the loss of regular programming.

County Supervisor Zev Yaroslovsky writes that some 3 million customers remain caught in the middle of the argument over retransmission fees, particularly seniors.

Time Warner Cable pays CBS retransmission fees to carry the network's channels to cable customers. CBS wants Time Warner to pay more per subscriber; Time Warner says the rate increase CBS wants is unreasonable.

Thus, CBS, KCAL 9 and Showtime have been blacked out for Time Warner Cable subscribers, who are missing the occasional locally broadcast game of the Los Angeles Dodgers' winning season, 60 MinutesHomeland and NCIS, among other shows.

According to CNN Money, Time Warner Cable has come up with a temporary solution for customers across the country who are blacked out: free antennas to watch CBS and KCAL 9 programming.

Nevertheless, many senior residents watch the broadcasts on older televisions, some of which may not be equipped to receive digital signals, according to Yaroslovsky's blog.

Even those Time Warner Cable subscribers who watch their favorite television shows online are out of luck. At last check, CBS.com was not allowing any visitor using an Internet connection from Time Warner Cable to stream shows on its website.
