Whole Foods Market is recalling 4-ounce packages of Whole Catch Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon that's been cold smoked and sliced from California stores due to possible contamination of Listeria Monocytogenes, the company announced Tuesday in a news release.
This is the second lot of salmon recalled, though the first lot did not affect California stores like the Whole Foods Market in South Redondo Beach and on the Manhattan Beach border in El Segundo.
The affected salmon is from lot code 7425A2297A and was sold in black-and-gold, flat, rectangular vacuum-sealed packages. The lot code is printed on the back of the package on the upper-left side.
Listeria contamination can cause high fever, severe headaches, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, and can be fatal to the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the Whole Foods salmon, according to the company.
"Customers should dispose of the product in the garbage and wash their hands immediately to avoid any potential cross-contamination," according to the company. "Full refunds will be given at the store."
