Why Not Try a 'Slice'?

The Slice is a New York style pizzeria in Redondo Beach.

is located in what may look like a run-down strip mall from the street. It's a tiny shop with a bar with a few seats inside and a few patio tables outside.

Appearances, however, can be deceiving. For starters, it was named a  2011 South Bay Favorite by the Daily Breeze. The staff was genuinely friendly and polite—the art of conversation was not lost here for sure. The menu doesn't differ much from the other pizza places in town with its selection of pizzas—including stuffed crust and white varieties—pastas, wings, subs and salads.

Of course, as the name suggests, pizza is available by the slice, but the pizza slices on display did look rather sad. I knew a little reheating would bring them back to life, but it was better to order a fresh pie.

The 12-inch Favorite Pizza ($15.95) with bell peppers, onion, pepperoni, sausage and mushroom arrived in a timely manner. The pizza had just enough of all the ingredients, which made for a very even taste. Though it was not a pure New York pizza, it came close with its floury crust and oil remnants on the box.

The Buffalo Wings ($7.95) were mild, as promised. Nevertheless, some of the wings were more moist and tender than the others that were a bit on the dry side. However, this was a pizza place, not a wing shop so that's the good news.
