The newest theatre company in the southland is set to take the stage at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center this August with a three show series of musical productions.
Named after the last name of its three founding members -- Dawson -- 3-D Theatricals will open their series with Avenue Q on August 3-5, followed by I love a Piano from September 29-30 and John Waters' famous show, Hairspray, which will run November 2-4.
The schedule for the 2013 season has yet to be announced.
The center's first show arrives nearly a year after the former tenant, Civic Light Opera of the South Bay Cities, was evicted by the city for failure to pay back rent in excess of $200,000.
Currently staging productions at the El Segundo Playhouse while relocating to its new home at the Warner Grand in San Pedro, the Civic Light Opera had inhabitated the 1,457 seat-theatre for nearly two decades and featured numerous award-winning titles.
Subscribers and ticket holders for the two shows, Company and Thoroughly Modern Millie, cancelled in 2011 will be honored at the Warner Grand in September and November, according to Civic Light Opera's web site.
While 3-D Theatricals started only a few years ago in 2009 out of Fullerton, CA, the company has already been the subject of front-page articles in numerous publications, including LA Stage Times, Orange Coast Magazine and Playbill.com.
Their addition will enhance the center's status as a cultural asset within the region, said city officials in a statement.
Tickets are priced $35 to $65, with discounts available for students, children and groups. For more information or to purchase tickets, click here or call 3-D at (714) 589-2770.
