Redondo Preps for July 4 Fireworks

Even as other South Bay cities cancel their fireworks shows, Redondo Beach plunges ahead with plans for the annual event.

The show will go on at for Redondo Beach's annual 4th of July celebration next month, even as cities like Torrance and Marina del Rey cancel their respective fireworks shows because of budget cuts.

Redondo's celebration, which is co-sponsored by Jack FM, will feature food from , and ; music from the John Brown Band, Couchois Brothers and DJ Wynn; swimming; and more, according to the event's website.

Barring a real emergency, a Coast Guard helicopter will also perform a mock water rescue at the lagoon.

The fireworks show will begin at 9 p.m.

Because of the canceled shows in Torrance and Marina del Rey, as well as in Lawndale, city officials expect more people to come to watch the show. The Redondo Beach Police Department has scheduled all 92 of its officers to work July 4.
