It's been a crazy year. From fish die-offs to reality television episodes to freeway news (and everything in between), Redondo Beach Patch writers were always busy. Here is the No. 4 most read story of the year, chosen by popularity and editorial discretion.

Jeremy Perez Dies in Albertsons Parking Lot (No. 4)

In what may have been one of the most tragic local stories of the year, 7-year-old Jeremy Perez died in August after a delivery truck backed over him as he was riding his bike through a North Redondo Beach parking lot to go see his mother.

A makeshift memorial with photos, flowers, balloons and chalk messages appeared on the sidewalk of Mathews Avenue. Though much smaller, the memorial was still there in mid-December.

Jeremy's death outraged neighbors. One called the position of the loading dock in the parking lot "a recipe for disaster" and "an accident that was waiting to happen."

Shortly after Jeremy's death, Albertsons placed orange cones in the pedestrian cutout to warn people against using it. Those cones are no longer there.
