Beachgoers should avoid the water between the and 100 yards south of the pier, according to a warning issued Tuesday by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
According to the department's website, bacterial levels in a water quality sample taken 50 yards south of the pier exceeded state standards.
The sample taken 50 yards south of the pier earned a C grade on the department's monthly report card.
Water samples taken 50 yards north of the Herondo Street storm drain, at the north side of the Topaz Street jetty, and in front of the Avenue I storm drain received B grades.
The only area to earn an A was the water in front of the Herondo Street storm drain.
