Craig Huey Triumphs Over Debra Bowen

Before Tuesday evening, almost everyone had assumed the runoff for the 36th District Congressional seat vacated by Jane Harman would be between two Democrats—most likely, Los Angeles City Councilwoman and California Secretary of State .

As expected, Hahn received the most votes, but Republican surprised many. By the time the votes were tallied Tuesday evening, separated Huey and Bowen. By Thursday, Huey .

Voter turnout ended up at about , despite the at the polls earlier in the day.

Though many Republicans, including Redondo Beach City Attorney Mike Webb, have endorsed Huey in the runoff, Redondo Beach Mayor Mike Gin has not. A from Huey's official Twitter account appears to have stemmed from a miscommunication.

Mickey and Minnie Mouse Arrested Outside Disney Studios

Redondo Beach resident Christopher Toomey, 52, was one of four arrested Wednesday outside Disney Studios in Burbank. While two of the activists hung a banner reading "Disney: Destroying Indonesia's Rainforests" over the entrance, two others dressed as Mickey and Minnie Mouse and chained themselves to the fence.

The four later and were released. Disney called the protest a "publicity stunt."
