Sierra Club Wilderness travel course

The Sierra club has a long history of
promoting the protection and the enjoyment of the
wilderness.  Today’s harried Americans could enjoy the rejuvenating
effect of taking a break from crowded freeways and overflowing email files and
instead enjoy dramatic mountain peaks bathed in the glow of the setting
sun.   Idyllic as this sounds, to make it happen requires some
basic knowledge on how to safely get around in the wilderness.  For
this purpose, experienced Sierra Club instructors have taught wilderness skills
to thousands of Southern Californians in small groups that build camaraderie
and provide opportunities for plenty of one on one instruction.  The
course teaches navigation techniques, gear selection, minimum impact camping,
and wilderness first aid.  Participants also explore, learn about
safety issues and much more.

Join us as Brian Decker, a veteran of
many wilderness adventures, shares his experiences with us and tells us more
about the Sierra Club wilderness travel course.  Wednesday, October
23 2013, 7-9PM at the Palos Verdes Library, 701 Silver Spur road, Rolling hills
estate (access also from Deep Valley Drive).  Free to all,
refreshments will be served.  For more information call Joyce White
